      to  water and wastewater systems throughout the state of Louisiana.

     

Scholarship Fund

The Louisiana Rural Water Association Scholarship Fund was created 
in 1998 in honor of Mr. Willis Fournet.

This scholarship fund was established by members of the Louisiana Rural Water Association for the students who reside on a water system that is a member of the LRWA and who are interested in pursuing a career in the water or wastewater field. All applicants who apply for the grant will be screened by the scholarship committee according to the office rules.

for an application or download it from the link below.  Applications will be mailed to Member Systems in January, 
if you do not receive your application please call our office and one will be mailed or faxed to you.

W.J. Fournet Scholarship Award

W.J. Fournet was born and raised in Kinder, La. He was a graduate of McNeese State University. He went on to become an educator and coach and he retired in the Allen Parish school system as an elementary school principal.

Upon Mr. Fournet's retirement in 1981 from Kinder Elementary School, which consisted of only a few days, 
he became director of Louisiana Rural Water Association.

Mr. Fournet guided LRWA to its present state, working with Environmental Protection Agency, 
Department of Environmental Quality, the Department of Health, the Department of Natural Resources 
and state water & wastewater operators.

Mr. Fournet retired from LRWA in December 1993 and passed away in December 1994.

He will always be remembered for his continuing education of not only children, but also his teaching and 
training of water and wastewater operators across the state of Louisiana.

The 2007 Scholarship recipient's of the $2,000.00 "W. J. Fournet Scholarship" were awarded to 2 very deserving applicants: 1) Mr. Adam Brewer Cooper, eligible member system – Heflin Water System, Heflin, LA,  and 2) Mr. Jarret Marcus Allemand, eligible member system – Southwest Allen Parish Water District #2, Kinder, LA.

2008 Scholarship Winners
Samuel Ashley Abigail LaCombe

North

Mr. Samuel (Sam) Ashley will be graduating from Kilbourne High School in Kilbourne, La.  Samuel has an overall G.P.A. of 4.0 and plans to continue his education at Louisiana Tech University.  Samuel has been involved in numerous clubs and organizations throughout high school.  He is class president at his high school and president of the National Honor Society and the Future Business Leaders of America.  He has received awards at the local and state levels.  He participates in varsity basketball and track, and is the manager of the baseball team.  Sam is a member of the First Baptist Church Youth Group.  He has helped lead and participated in numerous community improvement activities such as the Adopt a Road Campaign.  He also works part-time for a local farmer/businessman.  As quoted by his high school principal “Sam’s greatest attribute is his leadership ability.  Anytime the senior class has a question or problem, Sam is the spokesperson.”

South

Ms. Abigail (Abby) LaCombe will be graduating from Eunice High School in Eunice, La.  Abby has maintained a 4.0 G.P.A. and plans to further her education in chemical engineering at Louisiana State University in Eunice for her first two years and then go on to Louisiana Tech University.  Abby is a member of her high school’s track and basketball team and was chosen as EHS's Wendy’s High School Heisman nominee as well as the Outstanding Track and Field Undergraduate Girl Athlete.  Abby has received numerous awards.  She does volunteer work for her community recreational center.  Abby takes her community involvement one step further by tutoring children.  As quoted by her high school principal “Abby’s courage, determination, loyalty and love of life are evident everyday by her wonderful attitude and personality.  Her positive outlook on life is infectious and she brings joy to everyone around her.”
